The
Heitor Villa-Lobos Municipal
School Flute Orchestra opens
the conference |
The
Flute Orchestra of the Heitor Villa-Lobos Primary School will
perform on March 5th, at the conference’s Opening Ceremony.
The origins of this orchestra go back to 1992, the beginning of
a musical education project at the Heitor Villa Lobos School in
Porto Alegre, Brazil.
This initiative aims at promoting social inclusion for children
and young people living at Vila Mapa, a district in the outskirts
of Porto Alegre by developing their musical knowledge through
an artistic experience. Developing a positive attitude, enhancing
musical skills through group practice, boosting self-esteem and
a sense of belonging, stimulating sensitivity and sharpening their
perception skills, building a link with the local culture and
creating more opportunities for social participation are the orchestra’s
main goals.
